The official opening of the New Auditor-General’s Regional Branch office in Bougainville was declared opened by the Auditor-General of Papua New Guinea, Mr. Gordon Kega, and, the Honourable Ishmael Toroama on the 11th of November 2022. The opening of the new office followed an agreement that took place prior between the AGO and the ABG on the 15th of September 2022.
AGO’s intention in these two declarations signed, was to properly execute its constitutional audit mandate to the satisfaction of the Bougainville Peace Agreement, until such time when Bougainville would appoint its own Auditor-General to run its own affairs. AGO’s concern with the new regional office is to improve audit up to date in the region.
“This agreement outlines the co-operative arrangement between my office and the Autonomous Bougainville Government, which describes the roles and responsibilities of the parties to establish the mutually desired regional branch in Bougainville,” Said Mr. Kega.
Present to witness the two occasions that occurred on different days include, the four Deputy Auditor-General of AGO, and, The Minister for Public Service, Departmental heads, and local community leaders of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.
