AGO presents 2020 – 2023 public accounts report to parliament

The Auditor-General’s Office (AGO) has presented its Part I Report on the Public Accounts of Papua New Guinea for 2020 to 2023 to the National Parliament for tabling.

The report is part of the AGO’s constitutional responsibility to promote transparency, accountability and good management of public funds.

Auditor-General Mr Gordon Kega said presenting the report to Parliament was an important step in the public accountability process.

“The AGO has completed a significant body of audit work covering the 2020 to 2023 period and has now formally presented the Part I Report to Parliament. We look forward to the report being tabled so that its contents can be made available to Members of Parliament and the people of Papua New Guinea,” Mr Kega said.

The report will help Parliament carry out its oversight role by providing independent information on how public funds were managed and accounted for.

It is an important step in the AGO’s efforts to strengthen accountability in the public sector and provide assurance to Parliament and the people of Papua New Guinea.

Under parliamentary procedures, the contents and findings of the report remain confidential until it is officially tabled. Once tabled, the report will be available to support informed discussions on public financial management and the use of public funds.
